In August 2023, residential customers in California paid an average of 29.97¢ per kilowatthour, up 13.1% on the same month a year earlier (26.49¢). The US average for the month was 15.91¢; California was 88% above that. It ranked 2nd highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Residential sales were 9,806,881 MWh, down 8.9% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $201.72 on 673 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
