In December 2024, residential customers in California paid an average of 30.62¢ per kilowatthour, up 5.2% on the same month a year earlier (29.12¢). The US average for the month was 16.27¢; California was 88% above that. It ranked 3rd highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 7,063,338 MWh, up 7.9% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $149.68 on 489 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
