In January 2025, residential customers in California paid an average of 30.28¢ per kilowatthour, up 2.2% on the same month a year earlier (29.62¢). The US average for the month was 15.94¢; California was 90% above that. It ranked 3rd highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 7,917,379 MWh, up 5.2% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $166.75 on 551 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
