Colorado electricity prices, December 2023
Average price, sales and bills for the month against the same month a year earlier and the US. Final
In December 2023, residential customers in Colorado paid an average of 14.18¢ per kilowatthour, little changed on the same month a year earlier (14.15¢). The US average for the month was 15.69¢; Colorado was 9.6% below that. It ranked 25th highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 1,726,254 MWh, down 4.6% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $96.57 on 681 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
EIA marks this month as final. Final monthly figures are benchmarked to the annual Form EIA-861 census of utilities.
Average price is revenue divided by sales for the sector and year; it is not a tariff rate. Reliability figures are as reported by utilities to EIA on Form 861 and may use different calculation methods. Monthly figures come from the Form EIA-861M sample and are revised when EIA finalises the year.
