Households in Colorado paid an average of 14.92¢ per kilowatthour for electricity in 2024, 9.5% below the US average of 16.48¢. That ranks 25th highest of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The average residential bill was $100.57 a month on 674 kWh of monthly use (US: $142.26 on 863 kWh), the 49th highest bill. Residential sales came to 3,442 kWh per resident over the year.
In July 2026, the latest month EIA has published, the residential average was 17.00¢, up 6.3% on July 2025; the US figure for the month was 18.31¢. Monthly figures are preliminary until EIA finalises the year.
33 respondents reported residential customers in Colorado on the full Form EIA-861 for 2024, and 25 smaller utilities filed the short form, which has no residential breakdown. Investor-owned utilities account for 58.4% of the residential customers reported.
