In December 2023, residential customers in Illinois paid an average of 14.84¢ per kilowatthour, down 7.1% on the same month a year earlier (15.98¢). The US average for the month was 15.69¢; Illinois was 5.4% below that. It ranked 21st highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 3,604,648 MWh, down 12.8% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $98.69 on 665 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
