In January 2025, residential customers in Illinois paid an average of 15.78¢ per kilowatthour, up 6.8% on the same month a year earlier (14.77¢). The US average for the month was 15.94¢; Illinois was about the same as that. It ranked 17th highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 4,454,678 MWh, up 3.3% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $131.27 on 832 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
