In September 2025, residential customers in Illinois paid an average of 19.05¢ per kilowatthour, up 20.6% on the same month a year earlier (15.80¢). The US average for the month was 18.08¢; Illinois was 5.4% above that. It ranked 16th highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 3,560,500 MWh, down 2.9% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $125.23 on 657 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
