In August 2025, residential customers in Virginia paid an average of 15.83¢ per kilowatthour, up 11.7% on the same month a year earlier (14.17¢). The US average for the month was 17.61¢; Virginia was 10% below that. It ranked 25th highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 3,952,698 MWh, down 10.3% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $169.46 on 1,070 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
