Households in Alabama paid an average of 15.18¢ per kilowatthour for electricity in 2024, 7.9% below the US average of 16.48¢. That ranks 21st highest of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

In July 2026, the latest month EIA has published, the residential average was 16.40¢, up 3.0% on July 2025; the US figure for the month was 18.31¢. Monthly figures are preliminary until EIA finalises the year.
45 respondents reported residential customers in Alabama on the full Form EIA-861 for 2024, and 16 smaller utilities filed the short form, which has no residential breakdown. Investor-owned utilities account for 57% of the residential customers reported.
