In January 2025, residential customers in Virginia paid an average of 13.94¢ per kilowatthour, up 4.6% on the same month a year earlier (13.33¢). The US average for the month was 15.94¢; Virginia was 13% below that. It ranked 29th highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Residential sales were 5,971,784 MWh, up 19.1% on a year earlier, and the average residential bill for the month was $226.95 on 1,627 kWh. Weather moves monthly sales far more than prices do, so bills swing with the season.
