Median of the group's average residential prices, 2024, on the dial of all 1,230 US utilities. Ticks: median utility of any type; customer-weighted US average.

Retail power marketers sell electricity to customers in states with retail choice, while the local utility delivers it. In most states their revenue covers energy only; in Texas the marketer bills the whole service, so EIA reports a bundled price for it. This site describes what each reported to EIA and offers no view on whether to choose one.

163 respondents classed by EIA as retail power marketers reported at least 1,000 residential customers for 2024, 16,019,593 residential customers between them.

The median average residential price among the 49 with bundled service was 14.73¢ per kilowatthour, with the middle half between 13.32¢ and 16.82¢; the median across all ownership types was 13.33¢ and the customer-weighted US average 16.48¢. The median bill was $179.11 a month.

Average price is revenue divided by sales for the sector and year; it is not a tariff rate. Reliability figures are as reported by utilities to EIA on Form 861 and may use different calculation methods. Group figures are medians across utilities from the final 2024 file.
